Discover more about Baldha Garden

Baldha Garden, a 3.15-acre botanical garden in the heart of Old Dhaka, offers a tranquil escape from the city's chaos. Founded in 1909 by Narendra Narayan Roy Chaudhury, a local landlord, the garden is home to a diverse collection of plant species gathered from around the world. The garden is divided into two sections: Cybele and Psyche. Cybele, named after the Greek goddess of nature, features a variety of trees, a sundial, and the famed Sankhanidhi pond. It also houses the 'Joy House,' where Rabindranath Tagore is said to have been inspired to write his poem 'Camellia'. Psyche, named after the Greek goddess of the soul, showcases aquatic plants, including colorful water lilies in its Shapla House, and a collection of aloe plants. Managed as a satellite unit of the National Botanical Garden, Baldha Garden preserves a rich collection of both indigenous and exotic plants. Visitors can explore rare species, relax in the peaceful atmosphere, and appreciate the beauty of nature within this historical urban oasis.
