As you enter through the quaint Wijngaard Bridge and the main gate, you'll be transported to a world of tranquility. The complex features a Gothic-style church and a collection of white-colored houses dating back to the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries, all surrounding a serene courtyard with trees and lawns. The beguines lived a life of quiet contemplation, and that atmosphere is still palpable today. Visitors are encouraged to maintain silence to respect the serene environment. Since 1927, the Beguinage has been a Benedictine convent, with nuns from the Order of Saint Benedict and Order of Vincent de Paul residing there. One of the houses has been transformed into a museum, offering insights into the daily lives of the beguines with displays of paintings, lacework, and other historical artifacts.
