Getting There

• Car

  To reach Paro Taktsang from Gasa by car, start your journey heading south on the Gasa-Punakha highway (Route 5). Continue driving for approximately 65 kilometers until you reach the town of Punakha. From there, take the route to Paro by following the signs towards Wangdue Phodrang and then Paro. The total distance from Gasa to Paro is about 130 kilometers, which should take roughly 3 to 4 hours depending on road conditions and traffic. Upon reaching Paro, look for signs directing you to Paro Taktsang. The parking area is located at the base of the mountain. Remember, there may be a parking fee of around 100 Nu.

• Public Transport (Bus)

  For those using public transport, first take a local bus from Gasa to Punakha. The bus service operates twice daily in the morning. The journey will take approximately 2 hours. Once you arrive in Punakha, you will need to transfer to a bus heading to Paro. These buses run frequently throughout the day, and the ride to Paro will take about 1.5 to 2 hours. Upon reaching Paro, you can hire a taxi or take a local bus to the Paro Taktsang trailhead. Expect to pay around 200 Nu for the taxi ride from Paro town to the trailhead. There is a small entry fee for the monastery of about 500 Nu.

• Combination of Car and Hike

  If you're feeling adventurous, you can drive partway to Paro Taktsang and then hike the remainder of the way. Start by driving to the parking area at the base of the monastery, which is about 14 kilometers from Paro town. The hike from the parking area to Paro Taktsang takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. The path is well-maintained but steep, so wear comfortable shoes and carry enough water. There's no entry fee for hiking, but remember the parking fee of around 100 Nu as mentioned.
