Crossing the Heights: The Majestic Suspension Bridge of Punakha

Getting There

• Walking

  If you are starting from the center of Paro town, walk towards the Paro Dzong, which is a notable landmark. From the Dzong, head south towards the main road (National Highway 2). Once you reach the highway, look for a sign directing to Punakha. You will need to follow this road for about 1.5 kilometers until you reach the junction. At the junction, take a left turn onto the road leading towards Punakha. Continue walking on this road for about 10 kilometers, and you will eventually reach the Suspension Bridge in Punakha, which is clearly marked. The walk will take approximately 2 to 3 hours depending on your pace.

• Bicycle

  Rent a bicycle from one of the local shops in Paro town. Start your journey from the center of Paro and ride towards the Paro Dzong. From the Dzong, head south towards the National Highway 2. Once on the highway, follow the signs to Punakha. The ride is approximately 10 kilometers and will take about 30 to 45 minutes. Stay alert as you will be sharing the road with vehicles. Once you reach Punakha, look for signs directing you to the Suspension Bridge.

• Local Bus

  From Paro town, head to the local bus station located near the main market area. Look for buses heading to Punakha. The bus ride will take approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour depending on traffic. Once you arrive in Punakha, disembark at the main bus stop. From there, you can ask locals for directions to the Suspension Bridge, which is a well-known attraction and they will guide you accordingly.
