Getting There

Walking
Start your journey from the center of Thimphu, near the Clock Tower. From there, head north on Norzin Lam. Continue straight for about 1.5 km until you reach the end of the road. You will pass by the Bhutan National Library on your right. Keep walking until you reach the intersection where the road forks. Take the left fork, which leads to the Phajoding-Pumola Trail. This is a well-marked trail that will take you through beautiful forested areas and offer stunning views of the valley. Follow the trail for approximately 8 km, which should take around 3 to 4 hours, depending on your pace. The trail will lead you directly to Phajoding Monastery, where you can enjoy the serene atmosphere and panoramic views.

For a more adventurous approach, you can start your hike from the base of the mountain, which is accessible from the Thimphu-Domkhar road. Look for the trailhead marked for Phajoding Monastery. The hiking route is steep and can be strenuous, so make sure you are prepared with water and snacks. The hike will take approximately 3 to 4 hours to reach the monastery. Along the way, you will encounter several prayer flags and perhaps some local wildlife.
