Discover more about Trebevic hills

Trebević Mountain, part of the Jahorina massif in the Dinaric Alps, stands as a majestic backdrop to Sarajevo, offering a refreshing escape from the city's bustle. Historically significant, Trebević's name may derive from a Slavic sacrificial altar. The mountain gained prominence during the Austro-Hungarian era for its military vantage point. Trebević played a key role in the 1984 Winter Olympics, hosting the bobsleigh and luge competitions. The bobsleigh track, once a symbol of Sarajevo's global recognition, now stands as a graffiti-adorned relic, offering a hauntingly beautiful site for exploration. During the Bosnian War, Trebević became a frontline, suffering extensive damage, including the destruction of the original cable car. The area was heavily mined, further isolating it from the city. In 2018, the cable car was rebuilt, reconnecting Sarajevo with this beloved mountain. Today, Trebević is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, offering hiking trails, picnic spots, and panoramic views. Visitors can explore the Olympic bobsleigh track, enjoy the natural surroundings, and experience the blend of history and recreation that Trebević offers.
