Discover more about Trebevic planina

Trebević Mountain, rising 1,629 meters above sea level, is more than just a scenic backdrop to Sarajevo; it's a symbol of resilience and recreation. Known as the "lungs of Sarajevo" for its fresh air and lush forests, Trebević has been a beloved escape for generations. Historically, the mountain's slopes were inhabited by Illyrians, and it later gained importance during Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian rule. During the 1984 Winter Olympics, Trebević hosted bobsledding and other events, leaving behind a unique landmark: the abandoned Olympic bobsled track, now adorned with graffiti and popular for exploration and extreme sports. However, Trebević also bears the scars of war. During the 1992-1995 conflict, it served as a strategic point for the siege of Sarajevo, resulting in widespread destruction. Today, the mountain is largely cleared of landmines and has been revitalized as a protected area, offering hiking, mountain biking, and paragliding. Visitors can explore the mountain's diverse attractions, including the Sports and Recreational Center Brus, the Via Ferrata Bijela Stijena climbing area, and the Austro-Hungarian Bistrik Tower fortress. The Trebević cable car provides easy access from Sarajevo's Old Town, offering stunning views of the city and surrounding Dinaric Alps.
