The Memorial JK, an iconic landmark in Brasília, honors Juscelino Kubitschek (1902–1976), the former president of Brazil who envisioned and built the nation's capital. The memorial, designed by the renowned architect Oscar Niemeyer, is a striking example of modernist architecture, featuring a truncated pyramid shape covered in white marble and a concrete dome. A statue of Kubitschek by Honório Peçanha stands on a 28-meter pedestal, completing the ensemble. Inside the memorial, visitors can explore exhibits detailing Kubitschek's life, including his personal belongings, photographs, and documents related to the construction of Brasília. The exhibits offer insights into his contributions to Brazil's modernization and the political climate of his time. The interior also features a reproduction of Kubitschek's library from his Rio de Janeiro apartment. Marianne Peretti's stained glass adds an eerily beautiful touch. The Memorial JK is not only a museum but also Kubitschek's final resting place. The building is open to the public from Tuesday to Sunday, 9 AM to 6 PM. The surrounding gardens, designed by Burle Marx, provide a serene space for reflection. The Memorial stands on the Eixo Monumental, at the Praça do Cruzeiro.
