The Fort of Our Lady of Remedies is an iconic fortress located on the island of Fernando de Noronha, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Constructed in the 18th century by the Portuguese, the fort was part of a defensive system designed to protect the island from pirate invasions and foreign powers. The site where the fort stands today has a rich history, with remnants of an old Dutch fort and an underground powder storage discovered during construction. Over the centuries, the fort has been expanded and restored, most notably in 1859. Today, visitors can explore the fort's well-preserved structure, including its various rooms, battlements, and observation points. The fort had seven batteries of cannons for a total of 27 cannons, many of which are still present. The views from the fort are breathtaking, offering panoramic vistas of the coastline, including Morro do Pico, Praia do Meio, and Praia da Conceição. The sunsets from the fort are particularly stunning, painting the sky with vibrant colors. The fort is easily accessible from Vila dos Remédios, the main town on the island. A stone road behind the Cultural Center Amerigo Vespucci leads to the fort's entrance, where two cannons stand guard.
