Praça Getúlio Vargas: A Historic Square in Florianópolis

Praça Getúlio Vargas, often called Praça dos Bombeiros, is a significant public square located in the center of Florianópolis. Inaugurated in 1906, it's the second most important square in the city after Praça XV de Novembro. The square has undergone careful revitalization and serves as a charming meeting point for locals and tourists alike.The square is surrounded by historical buildings, including the Corpo de Bombeiros (Fire Department), the Igreja do Divino Espírito Santo (Church of the Divine Holy Spirit), and the IPUF (Institute of Urban Planning of Florianópolis). It features a playground named Parque Dona Tilinha, dedicated to Atília Tolentino de Souza, wife of a former mayor. Other features include a water fountain and lush vegetation, providing a tranquil escape from the bustling city.Praça Getúlio Vargas offers a glimpse into the history of Santa Catarina, honoring various historical figures. These include Anita Garibaldi, a Brazilian heroine; President Getúlio Vargas, with a reproduction of his last will; Carl Hoepcke, a prominent businessman; and Antônio Vicente Bulcão Vianna, a doctor and politician. The square also features a monument to the Heroes of Armed Struggle, commemorating participants in the Federalist Revolution. The gardens are named after ex-governor Gustavo Richard and include a fountain.
