• Public Transport

  VITRAN buses offer an economical way to get around St. Thomas, with routes covering main commercial areas. The bus fare is $1 per ride. Alternatively, 'dollar rides' or 'dollar taxis' provide a pseudo-public transportation service using safari buses. These operate like shared taxis and can be flagged down along main roads. Keep in mind that dollar rides and regular taxis have different rates.

• Ferry

  Ferries connect St. Thomas to nearby islands like St. John and Water Island. Ferries to St. John depart from Red Hook and Charlotte Amalie, with frequent service throughout the day. A ferry from Crown Bay Marina to Water Island costs $5 for adults and $3 for children. Remember to factor in port fees and departure taxes, which can add to the overall cost.

• Car Rental

  Renting a car offers the most flexibility for exploring St. Thomas. Several rental agencies are located at the airport and near cruise ports. Be prepared to drive on the left side of the road. Parking is available in Charlotte Amalie, including at the Fort Christian parking lot, but spaces can be limited. Metered parking rates are around $0.25 per half hour, with a two-hour maximum. The Urman V. Fredericks Marine Terminal in Red Hook offers parking at hourly and daily rates.
