The Fahie Hill Murals, also known as the Ridge Road Mural, are a series of colorful paintings that adorn a retaining wall along Tortola's mountainous Ridge Road. This public art installation comprises 23 connected panels created by local artists, offering a visual journey into the British Virgin Islands' past. Initiated in 2001 by Eileene Parsons, then Minister of Culture, the murals were envisioned as a "repository of cultural images pertaining to the area". Local artist Ruben Vanterpool spearheaded the project, outlining the general theme and contributing nine panels himself. Other artists, including Quito Rhymer, also contributed to the mural. The murals depict scenes of everyday life in the Virgin Islands during the 1950s, before modern conveniences transformed the landscape. Visitors can observe vignettes of agriculture, fishing, farming, cooking, baking, schooling, music, transportation, construction, cane cutting, and cattle breeding. Each panel provides insight into the traditions and practices that shaped the community. Located along the sinuous curves of Ridge Road, the murals offer more than just an artistic experience. The vantage point also provides stunning views of Road Town and the surrounding islands. The murals serve as a gathering point for both locals and tourists, fostering a sense of community and connection.
