Getting There

  • Walking

    If you are starting at the central square of Shumen, known as 'Ploshtad Knyaz Boris I', begin by heading northeast along 'Vasil Levski' Street. Continue straight for about 1 km until you reach the intersection with 'Bratia Shkorpil' Street. Turn left onto 'Bratia Shkorpil' Street and continue walking. After about 500 meters, you will come to the foot of the hill where the Shumen Fortress is located.

    Once you reach the base of the hill, look for signs indicating the entrance to the Shumen Fortress. The path will lead you uphill; follow it for approximately 300 meters. You will encounter several steps, so be prepared for a bit of a hike. At the top, you will find the entrance to the Historical and Archaeological Reserve Shumen Fortress.

    From the central bus station in Shumen, take bus number 10 towards 'Simeonovgrad'. The bus will take you to the stop named 'Shumen Fortress'. The journey takes about 15 minutes. Once you get off the bus, you will see signs directing you to the fortress entrance, which is a short walk away.
