Discover more about Kutelo

Kutelo Peak, soaring to 2,908 meters (9,541 feet), reigns as the second highest summit in the Pirin Mountains of Bulgaria, surpassed only by Vihren Peak. It proudly claims the title of the third highest peak in Bulgaria. This impressive peak is situated on the main ridge in the northern part of Pirin, within the Pirin National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Kutelo is a double peak, distinguished by a small saddle separating its two parts. The slightly lower peak measures only a meter less than the higher one. The peak is largely composed of whitish, fragmented marble, its slopes descending steeply into the surrounding valleys and cirques. To the south lie the Kazanite cirques, to the east the Banderitsa River valley, and to the northwest the Banski Suhodol cirque. The southwestern slopes descend into the deep valley of the Vlachina River. For experienced and well-prepared hikers, ascending Kutelo is a rewarding challenge. While there isn't a marked trail to the very summit, several routes lead close, offering breathtaking views. The most popular ascent typically involves traversing the Premkata saddle, located on its southwestern slope. Another route goes through Koncheto saddle. The climb is not recommended in winter due to avalanche risks. Kutelo is home to diverse alpine flora, including the delicate edelweiss, and provides habitat for the agile chamois.
