    Car

    The Rila Monastery is approximately a 1.5-2 hour drive from Sofia. Take the A3 Sofia-Kulata highway. At Kocherinovo, take the designated junction to the monastery; the distance from the junction is approximately 25 km. Parking is available near the main entrance for 5 BGN. Be aware that parking can be limited during peak season.

    Shuttle Bus

    Several shuttle services operate daily from Sofia to Rila Monastery. The Rila Shuttle departs from St. Alexander Nevski Cathedral at 9:00 AM and costs approximately 30 BGN one way. Advance booking is required. Alternatively, a shuttle that combines a visit to Boyana Church is available for €35.

    Public Transport

    A direct bus to Rila Monastery departs from Sofia's Ovcha Kupel Bus Station. The bus leaves at 10:20 AM and arrives at approximately 1:00 PM. The return bus departs from the monastery at 3:00 PM, giving you about 2 hours to explore the site. A one-way ticket costs 17 BGN. To reach Ovcha Kupel Bus Station, take tram N5 from the Sofia Court. Note: Public bus service may be subject to change.
