From downtown San Francisco, several Muni lines provide access to various GGNRA sites. The F Line runs to Fisherman's Wharf, near the Alcatraz ferry. The 28 and Presidio Go buses connect to the Presidio and Fort Point. For the Marin Headlands, take Golden Gate Transit lines 101, 132, or 150 from San Francisco to the Spencer Ave. Bus Pad in Sausalito. From there, trailheads into the Headlands are easily accessible. A one-way fare on Golden Gate Transit from San Francisco to Sausalito costs $5-$8. The PresidiGo Shuttle is a free option for getting around the Presidio.

Driving
The GGNRA can be reached by Highways 1, 101, and 280 from the north and south San Francisco Bay Area, and by Highway 80 over the Bay Bridge from the East Bay. Parking fees vary by location. For example, parking at the Golden Gate Bridge Welcome Center costs $5/hour with a 3-hour limit. Parking fees in the Presidio range from $3/hour to $10/day. Be aware that parking can be limited, especially during peak season, and reservations may be required for certain locations like Muir Woods.

Muir Woods Shuttle
To reach Muir Woods, take the Muir Woods Shuttle from Larkspur Landing (weekends and holidays) or the Sausalito Ferry Terminal (select summer weekdays). Round-trip shuttle fare is $3.75 for adults; children 15 and under ride free. Reservations for the shuttle are required. To reach the Larkspur Landing shuttle stop from San Francisco, take the Golden Gate Ferry from the SF Ferry Building; the 35-minute ride costs $14 each way for adults. Alternatively, take Golden Gate Transit Bus 130 to the Bridgeway & Bay Street stop in Sausalito, near the Sausalito shuttle stop; the bus fare is $8.25.

Alcatraz Ferry
To visit Alcatraz Island, take the Alcatraz City Cruises ferry from Pier 33. Ferry tickets include the cellhouse audio tour and cost around $41 for adults. It is highly recommended to book tickets well in advance, as they often sell out. To reach Pier 33 from downtown San Francisco, take the Muni F Line. A ride on the F Line costs $3.
