    Discover more about Pfeiffer Falls

Pfeiffer Falls is a captivating waterfall nestled within Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park, often called a 'mini Yosemite' for its stunning natural beauty. The falls cascade 60 feet down moss-covered granite cliffs into a serene pool below, creating a tranquil oasis amidst the towering redwoods. The park itself is named after John Pfeiffer, an early settler who sold 700 acres of his family's land to the state in 1933 to preserve it from development. The Pfeiffer family's legacy is woven into the fabric of Big Sur, with several landmarks bearing their name. The trail to Pfeiffer Falls has a rich history, having been rerouted and renovated after damage from the 2008 Basin Complex Fire. The newly improved trail, which reopened in 2021, features boardwalks, staircases, and bridges that enhance the hiking experience. The hike is moderately difficult and takes you through majestic, old-growth redwoods. While hiking, take note of the unique ecosystem. Pfeiffer Redwood Creek flows into the Big Sur River, which parallels the Pacific Ocean. Also, be aware that the trail briefly enters Los Padres National Forest.
