Walking
If you are in the heart of Big Sur, start by heading south on Highway 1 (Pacific Coast Highway). Look for the signs for Garrapata State Park, which is your primary destination. It is about 8 miles south of the Big Sur Village. Once you arrive at Garrapata State Park, find the entrance for Garrapata Trail. The trailhead is located near the parking area. From there, follow the paths that lead you to Calla Lily Valley. The valley is typically accessed via a steep but short hike, roughly 0.5 miles. Follow the trail markers and be sure to take your time as the area can be steep and rocky.
Biking
For those opting to bike, you can rent a bicycle in Big Sur. Cycle south along Highway 1 for approximately 8 miles until you reach Garrapata State Park. Be cautious, as the highway can be busy with traffic. Once you arrive at the park, secure your bike at the bike rack or nearby trees. Then, make your way to the Garrapata Trail and follow the path to Calla Lily Valley. The hike will take you about 15-20 minutes depending on your pace.
Hiking
If you are already hiking in the area, you can connect to the Garrapata Trail from various other trails in the Garrapata State Park. Look for signs that lead to Garrapata Trail. Once on the trail, follow the signs specifically pointing toward Calla Lily Valley. The hike will take you through beautiful coastal scenery and typically takes about 30 minutes to reach the valley from the main trail.
