Hurricane Point: A Breathtaking Coastal Escape

Getting There

• Hiking

  If you're staying in Big Sur Village, head north on Highway 1 (Pacific Coast Highway). Follow the road for about 1.5 miles until you reach the entrance to Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. Enter the park and look for the trailhead for the Pfeiffer Falls Trail. Hike along the trail, which is approximately 1 mile long and will take you through beautiful redwood forests. Upon reaching Pfeiffer Falls, continue along the path until you intersect with the Big Sur River. At this point, navigate towards the north side of the river and follow the trails that lead you towards the coastline. You'll eventually reach a viewpoint that overlooks the dramatic cliffs and the Pacific Ocean. From here, you can see Hurricane Point in the distance. Make sure to take your time to enjoy the lush scenery, and be prepared for a 3-4 hour round trip hike.

• Public Transport

  From Big Sur Village, take the Monterey-Salinas Transit Route 22 bus heading south towards Cambria. Inform the driver that you would like to get off at the stop for Hurricane Point, which is approximately a 30-minute ride. Once you arrive at Hurricane Point, you will be greeted by stunning ocean views and can spend time exploring the area on foot. If you plan to return, make sure to check the bus schedule for the return trip to Big Sur Village.

• Biking

  For adventurous tourists, renting a bicycle is a fantastic way to reach Hurricane Point. Start from the Big Sur Village and bike north along Highway 1. The ride is about 3 miles and is moderately challenging due to the hilly terrain. As you bike, be cautious of traffic and enjoy the breathtaking coastal views. Upon reaching Hurricane Point, you can lock your bike and explore the various lookout points along the cliffs. This option allows you to take in the sights at your own pace while enjoying the fresh coastal air.
