Getting There

  • Walking

    If you are staying in the Big Sur area, start at the Big Sur River Inn located at 47240 Highway 1. From here, walk south along Highway 1 for about 0.5 miles until you reach Sycamore Canyon Road. Turn left onto Sycamore Canyon Road and continue walking for approximately 1 mile. This road will lead you directly to the entrance of Pfeiffer Beach. Once at the entrance, pay the entrance fee if applicable, and follow the path down to the beach. Keyhole Arch is located near the northwest side of the beach, easily identifiable by its unique rock formation.

  • Biking

    For those who prefer biking, you can rent a bike at one of the local shops in Big Sur. Start at the Big Sur Station on Highway 1, and head south on the highway. After about 0.5 miles, turn left onto Sycamore Canyon Road. Continue to bike along Sycamore Canyon Road for approximately 1 mile until you reach the entrance to Pfeiffer Beach. After entering the beach, park your bike in the designated bike rack and walk to the northwest side to find Keyhole Arch.

    If you enjoy hiking, you can take the Pfeiffer Falls and Valley View Trail starting from the Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. Begin at the park entrance and follow the trail signs for the Pfeiffer Falls Trail. After about 1.5 miles of hiking, you will reach the falls and can take a moment to enjoy the scenery. After visiting the falls, continue back on the same trail, but this time, take the Valley View Trail. This path loops back toward the highway. Once you reach Sycamore Canyon Road, turn left and walk the remaining distance to Pfeiffer Beach. Keyhole Arch will be located on the beach once you arrive.
