Bus
From Castro Valley, walk to the nearest AC Transit bus stop (e.g., Castro Valley BART Station). Take the 40 or 46 bus towards San Francisco. Get off at the bus stop at the intersection of Marin City and Highway 101. From there, transfer to the Marin Transit Route 61 bus towards Sausalito. Get off at the 'Marin Headlands Visitor Center' stop. From the Visitor Center, follow the signs to Point Bonita Lighthouse, which is about a 1-mile walk along the scenic trails.
Bicycle
If you prefer cycling, rent a bike from a local shop in Castro Valley. Head towards the Iron Horse Trail headed north, and follow it until you reach the San Francisco Bay Trail. Continue on the Bay Trail towards Sausalito. Upon reaching Sausalito, follow the signs to Marin Headlands. The ride is approximately 12 miles and will take you through beautiful scenery, but be prepared for some hills as you approach the lighthouse.
Walking
Walking directly from Castro Valley to Point Bonita Lighthouse is quite a long journey (approximately 14 miles). If you're up for it, start by heading towards Lake Chabot Road, then follow the paths that lead to the Bay Trail. Continue on the Bay Trail towards Sausalito. Once in Sausalito, ask locals for directions to Marin Headlands and Point Bonita Lighthouse. The scenic views along the way are rewarding, but be sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring water.
