From most points in the town of Oceano, reaching the beach at Pier Avenue is easily done on foot. From Highway 1, head west on Pier Avenue until it ends at the beach entrance. The walk is generally flat and takes about 10-15 minutes from the eastern end of Pier Avenue. Sidewalks are available along much of the route.

The San Luis Obispo Regional Transit Authority (SLORTA) operates bus routes that serve Oceano. Route 28 connects Oceano with Grover Beach and Arroyo Grande.
