Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving from anywhere in North Bay, start by getting onto US-101 South. Continue on US-101 South for about 50 miles until you reach CA-156 West toward Monterey. Merge onto CA-156 West and follow the signs for Monterey Peninsula, which will eventually lead you to US-1 South. Continue on US-1 South until you arrive at Monterey. Once in Monterey, follow the signs to downtown Monterey and Custom House Plaza. The landmark is located at 1 Custom House Plaza, Monterey, CA 93940. Note: Parking may incur fees; check local parking signs for rates.

• Public Transportation

  If you prefer public transportation, take the Golden Gate Transit bus (Route 70 or 80) from North Bay to the San Francisco Ferry Building. From there, transfer to the Monterey-Salinas Transit bus (Line 1 or 2) which will take you to Monterey. Once you arrive in Monterey, you may need to walk or use local transit options (such as the MST Trolley) to reach Custom House Plaza. Be sure to check the schedules in advance, as bus frequencies may vary. Expect a total travel time of about 3-4 hours.

• Bicycle

  For the adventurous, consider biking. Start in North Bay and take the scenic route down to Monterey via the Bay Trail and coastal paths. This route can be lengthy (approximately 80 miles), so plan for a full day of biking. Make sure to bring water, snacks, and a bike repair kit. Once in Monterey, navigate to Custom House Plaza for the landmark. Note that some sections may require riding on the road, so be cautious and follow traffic rules.
