Discover more about Torrey Pines Golf Course

Torrey Pines Golf Course is more than just a golfing destination; it's an experience that combines the thrill of the game with the stunning beauty of the Pacific coastline. Located in La Jolla, California, the 36-hole municipal facility sits on cliffs overlooking the ocean, providing golfers with panoramic views that enhance every swing. The history of Torrey Pines dates back to World War II when the land was part of Camp Callan, a U.S. Army training center. After the war, the City of San Diego recognized the potential of the coastal property and developed it into a public golf course. The vision was brought to life by William P. Bell and his son, William F. Bell, who designed the North and South courses. The courses officially opened in 1957 and were named after the rare Torrey pine tree, native to the area. Both the North and South courses offer unique challenges and stunning scenery. The South Course is known for its demanding layout and has hosted major tournaments, including the 2008 and 2021 U.S. Open Championships. Tiger Woods' dramatic victory at the 2008 U.S. Open, playing through an injured leg, is one of the most memorable moments in golf history. The North Course, redesigned by Tom Weiskopf in 2016, offers a more player-friendly experience with equally impressive ocean views. Torrey Pines is a symbol of public golf, welcoming players of all backgrounds to experience a world-class course. The course also hosts the PGA Tour's Farmers Insurance Open annually, attracting top golfers from around the world. Beyond golf, visitors can enjoy the course-side restaurant in the clubhouse and explore the well-stocked golf shop.
