Discover more about Hart Park

Nestled in the Newhall neighborhood of Santa Clarita, William S. Hart Regional Park provides a fascinating glimpse into the life of William S. Hart, a celebrated silent film actor and director. Hart, known as "Two Gun Bill," was a major figure in early Western cinema, making nearly 70 films between 1914 and 1925. In 1921, he purchased land in Newhall, creating the Horseshoe Ranch. Upon his death in 1946, Hart bequeathed his ranch to Los Angeles County, stipulating that it be used as a park and museum for public enjoyment. The park spans 265 acres and offers a variety of attractions. Visitors can explore Hart's 22-room Spanish Colonial Revival-style mansion, La Loma de los Vientos, which houses the William S. Hart Museum. The museum showcases Western art, Native American artifacts, and memorabilia from Hart's Hollywood career. Although the museum is currently closed, visitors can still view the exterior of the mansion. The park also features a historic 1910 Ranch House, though it is currently closed. Beyond the museums, Hart Park offers a range of outdoor activities. Guests can enjoy hiking trails, picnic areas, and a barnyard with farm animals. A herd of American bison, descendants of those donated by Walt Disney in 1962, roams the park. The Santa Clarita History Center, which includes the original 1888 Saugus Train Station, a steam engine, and other historic buildings, is also located within the park. The park hosts several events throughout the year, including the Cowboy Festival and the Hart of the West Pow Wow. William S. Hart Park offers a unique opportunity to experience California's Western heritage and natural beauty.
