Discover more about William S Hart Museum

The William S. Hart Museum, nestled in the scenic William S. Hart Park in Newhall, California, offers a unique journey into the life and legacy of William S. Hart, a celebrated silent film actor and director who shaped the image of the Old West. Hart, known as "Two Gun Bill," was a major star of the silent era, making nearly 70 Westerns between 1914 and 1925. The museum itself is housed in Hart's stunning Spanish Colonial Revival-style mansion, completed in 1927, where he lived until his death in 1946. The mansion features original furnishings, an extensive collection of Western art by artists like Charles M. Russell and Frederic Remington, and artifacts representing various Native American cultures. Visitors can also explore a 1910 Ranch House, displaying Hart's saddles, tack, and more Hollywood mementos. Beyond the museum, William S. Hart Park spans 265 acres, offering picnic areas, hiking trails, and a chance to see farm animals and a herd of American bison, descendants of those donated by Walt Disney in 1962. Hart's gift to the public ensures free admission to both the park and museum, allowing everyone to experience a piece of Hollywood history and the beauty of the Old West. Note that the Hart Museum has been closed since the early years of the Covid-19 pandemic and is expected to be transferred to the City of Santa Clarita in July 2025.
