Hiking
If you are starting from the Lodgepole Visitor Center, head southeast on the main path leading out of the visitor center. Follow the signs directing you towards the 'Giant Forest'. After about 1 mile, you will reach the Giant Forest Museum. Continue past the museum, taking the trail that leads deeper into the forest. Look for signs to McKinley Tree. The hike will be approximately 1.5 miles from the museum. The trail is well-marked, and you will be surrounded by towering sequoias. Keep an eye out for the trail markers indicating you are nearing McKinley Tree, which will be on your left. The total hike from the Lodgepole Visitor Center to McKinley Tree is about 2.5 miles one way.
Hiking
If you are at the Giant Forest area, locate the main trail leading from the Giant Forest Museum. The path is paved and easily accessible. Walk towards the McKinley Tree Trailhead, which is about 0.5 miles from the museum. The trail is slightly uphill but very manageable. Follow the markers that indicate the direction to McKinley Tree. The tree itself is a significant landmark and should be visible as you approach. The total walking distance from the Giant Forest Museum is about 1 mile round trip.
