If you are starting from the Lodgepole Visitor Center, head southeast on the main path leading out of the visitor center. Follow the signs directing you towards the 'Giant Forest'. After about 1 mile, you will reach the Giant Forest Museum. Continue past the museum, taking the trail that leads deeper into the forest. Look for signs to McKinley Tree. The hike will be approximately 1.5 miles from the museum. The trail is well-marked, and you will be surrounded by towering sequoias. Keep an eye out for the trail markers indicating you are nearing McKinley Tree, which will be on your left. The total hike from the Lodgepole Visitor Center to McKinley Tree is about 2.5 miles one way.
