Getting There

  • Walking

    Los Encinos State Historic Park is located in a residential area of Encino. If you are nearby, walking is a good option. From Ventura Boulevard and Balboa Boulevard, walk north on Balboa Boulevard to Moorpark Street. Turn left onto Moorpark Street, and the park entrance will be on your right. Please note that there is no parking available inside the park.

  • Public Transport

    The Los Encinos State Historic Park is accessible via public transportation. Several bus lines run along Ventura Boulevard, which is a short walk from the park. From the bus stop, walk north on Balboa Boulevard to Moorpark Street. Turn left onto Moorpark Street, and the park entrance will be on your right. A single ride on the bus is $1.75.

  • Driving

    If driving, take the US-101 (Ventura Freeway) to the Balboa Boulevard exit. From the northbound US-101, take exit 20 for Hayvenhurst Ave. and make a left. Then turn right at the first cross street onto Magnolia Blvd. Turn left onto Petit Ave. Then turn right onto La Maida St. Turn right at the first cross street onto Moorpark St. Park will be located on the left. From the southbound US-101, take exit 21 for Balboa Blvd and turn right. Then turn left onto Moorpark St. The park will be on the right. Please note that there is no parking lot at the park; street parking is available along Moorpark Street. Be aware of the 2-hour parking limit. Metered parking is available for $2 for 2 hours.

Located in the heart of Encino, this 5-acre park preserves the buildings and landscape of Rancho Los Encinos, a significant site with a rich history spanning thousands of years Originally the site of the Tongva village of Siutcanga, the area's natural spring provided a vital water source. In 1769, the Spanish Portola Expedition reached the valley, naming it “El Valle de Santa Catalina de Bononia de Los Encinos”. The park's historical significance grew as it became a part of Rancho El Encino, a Mexican land grant dating back to 1845. Visitors can explore the meticulously restored de la Ossa Adobe, built in 1849, which offers a glimpse into the daily life of early settlers. The two-story Garnier building, constructed in 1872, now serves as the visitor center. The park also features a blacksmith shop and a pond, constructed in 1874 by ranch owner Eugene Garnier, fed by the natural spring that has attracted settlement in the area for thousands of years. Los Encinos State Historic Park provides a serene escape from the city.
