    Discover more about Glacier Point

Glacier Point stands as one of Yosemite National Park's most celebrated viewpoints, perched high on the south wall of Yosemite Valley at an elevation of 7,214 feet. From this vantage, visitors are treated to an awe-inspiring panorama encompassing Yosemite Valley, Half Dome, Yosemite Falls, and the park's southeastern high country. Historically, Native Americans reportedly used the overhanging rock as a lookout. The first formal trail to Glacier Point, the Four Mile Trail, was completed in 1872, enabling hikers to reach the summit. In 1882, a stage road was built, followed by improvements for automobiles in the early 1900s, making the point more accessible. Glacier Point also hosted the Yosemite Firefall, a summertime event from the late 1800s to 1968, where burning embers were pushed over the cliff. Today, Glacier Point is reached via Glacier Point Road, typically open from late May through October or November. A short, paved, wheelchair-accessible trail leads from the parking area to the viewpoint. Besides the views, Glacier Point serves as a starting point for various hikes, including the Four Mile Trail and the Panorama Trail. Facilities include restrooms and a gift shop/snack stand.
