Driving
Cape Breton Highlands National Park is primarily accessed via the Cabot Trail. From the Canso Causeway, it's approximately a 2-hour drive to either the east (Ingonish) or west (Chéticamp) entrances. The Cabot Trail itself loops around northern Cape Breton. From Halifax, the drive is about 5 hours. Be aware that parking lots at popular trailheads like Skyline and Franey can fill up quickly, especially during peak season. There are electric vehicle charging stations available within the park. There is no fee to enter the park from June 20 to September 2, 2025.

Public Transport
While there's no direct public transportation into Cape Breton Highlands National Park, Maritime Bus provides service to nearby communities such as Wagmatcook, North Sydney, or Whycocomagh. From these locations, you would need to arrange for a taxi or shuttle service to reach the park. Taxi services are available in Cheticamp and Ingonish Beach. Keep in mind that this option requires significant pre-planning and may involve a considerable walk or additional transportation to enter the park.
