Discover more about Édifice Robert-Lionel-Séguin

The Édifice Robert-Lionel-Séguin, located at 102 Rue Saint-Pierre in Rigaud, Quebec, stands as a testament to the town's rich history and architectural evolution. Originally constructed in 1834, the building first served as a school for young girls and was known as the "Arche de Noé" in 1925. After a period of vacancy following the construction of École Saint-François, Lawrence Alexander Wilson, a Member of Parliament and Senator, acquired the building and donated it to the town. Renovations were carried out, and in 1928, it officially became Rigaud's town hall. The building served this purpose until it was eventually repurposed to house the municipal library. The building's architecture reflects the picturesque movement, emphasizing harmony between buildings and their landscape. Its features include a square layout, two-and-a-half stories, and a pavilion housing a staircase. The Georgian influence is evident in its symmetrical design, hipped roof, and the entrance adorned with a fanlight transom and a classical pediment supported by columns. Today, the building is named in honor of Robert-Lionel-Séguin, a renowned Quebec ethnologist from Rigaud.
