Discover more about Wascana Park

Wascana Park, officially known as Wascana Centre, is a 930-hectare (2,300-acre) urban park in the heart of Regina, Saskatchewan. Established in 1912, the park was designed around the Saskatchewan Legislative Building and Wascana Lake. The park's name, Wascana, is derived from the Cree word "Oskana," meaning "pile of bones". The park features a 120-hectare (300-acre) lake created in 1883 by damming Wascana Creek to provide a reliable water reservoir. Over time, the lake and surrounding park have been progressively improved, creating one of the most impressive human-sculpted natural environments in the world. Wascana Park is home to many of Regina's major attractions, including the Saskatchewan Legislative Building, the University of Regina, the Royal Saskatchewan Museum, the Conexus Arts Centre, and the Saskatchewan Science Centre. Visitors can explore walking and cycling trails, picnic areas, floral gardens, and natural habitat zones. Popular activities include canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding, and enjoying the park's restaurants. In winter, visitors can skate on the lake and cross-country ski. The park also features several monuments and memorials, including the Albert Street Memorial Bridge, the Queen Elizabeth II Gardens, and Speakers' Corner. Wascana Park is also committed to accessibility, with features like accessible playgrounds and trails, and the Wascana Pool designed with accessibility and inclusivity in mind.
