If you are traveling by car, start your journey from Puerto Aysén. Head south on Route 240 towards Coyhaique. After approximately 60 kilometers, transition onto Route 7, also known as the Carretera Austral. Drive for another 90 kilometers until you reach the town of Puerto Río Tranquilo. From there, continue on Route 7 for another 30 kilometers until you reach the entrance to the Lago San Rafael National Park. Here, you will find the access point for boat tours that take you to San Rafael Lake. Be prepared for a fee for the boat tour, which typically costs around CLP 40,000 to CLP 70,000 per person, depending on the operator.

For those using public transportation, you can take a bus from Puerto Aysén to Coyhaique, which runs frequently throughout the day. Once in Coyhaique, transfer to a bus heading to Puerto Río Tranquilo. The bus ride from Coyhaique to Puerto Río Tranquilo takes about 3 hours. Upon arriving in Puerto Río Tranquilo, you will need to take a taxi or walk to the Lago San Rafael National Park entrance where boat tours are available.
