Independencia Park, also known as Parque de la Independencia, serves as the main plaza in Socorro, Santander, a town pivotal in Colombia's fight for independence. Founded in 1681, Socorro was the epicenter of the Comuneros Revolt in 1781, a precursor to the country's independence movement.The park itself is a beautiful space adorned with tall palm trees and monuments commemorating key figures in Colombian history. A central monument honors José Antonio Galán, a hero of the Comuneros Revolution, depicted wielding a sword. In the northeast corner, a monument recognizes Antonia Santos, a revolutionary leader executed for her role in the independence struggle.
