Discover more about El Gallineral Natural Park

El Gallineral Natural Park, located in San Gil, Santander, is a captivating natural reserve spanning four hectares on an island between the Río Fonce and Quebrada Curití. The park's name derives from its signature 'chicken coop' trees, particularly the majestic Ceibas, adorned with abundant Spanish moss, locally known as 'barbas de viejo' or 'old man's beard'. This moss creates a unique and enchanting spectacle as it hangs from the branches like flowing beards. Planted over 300 years ago, many of the trees were intentionally covered in Spanish moss to resemble wise old men. Walking through the park offers a serene escape with winding pathways connecting various squares. Visitors can also enjoy two artificial, chlorinated pools for a refreshing dip. Several bridges cross the Quebrada Curití, including the 'Bridge of Love'. The park also features architectural elements that enhance its charm. El Gallineral is more than just a scenic spot; it's a place to connect with nature, offering respite from the bustling city. The park is open daily from 8 am to 5 pm, providing ample time to explore its beauty.
