Driving
From Estes Park, drive west on Highway 36 to the Rocky Mountain National Park's Beaver Meadows Entrance. After entering the park, turn left onto Bear Lake Road. Continue for approximately 5.8 miles and turn left onto Sprague Lake Road. The Sprague Lake parking area is a short drive down Sprague Lake Road. Park entrance fees are required; a daily pass costs $30 per vehicle, or free with a recreation pass. During peak season, a timed entry permit may also be required. Check the park's website for current requirements.
Shuttle
During the busy summer season, consider using the free park shuttle to reach Sprague Lake. Park at the Estes Park Visitor Center or the Park & Ride to catch the shuttle. The shuttle drops off at the Sprague Lake Trailhead. This option eliminates the stress of finding parking. Check the Rocky Mountain National Park website for the shuttle schedule and operating dates.
Walking
From the Sprague Lake parking area, the Sprague Lake Loop trailhead is easily accessible. A small bridge to the left leads to the wide, gravel path that encircles the lake. The loop is relatively flat and well-maintained, making it a short and easy walk for most visitors.
