Discover more about Royal Gorge Bridge & Park

The Royal Gorge Bridge & Park is a captivating blend of natural beauty and human ingenuity. The centerpiece, the Royal Gorge Bridge, spans 1,260 feet across the Royal Gorge, suspended 956 feet above the Arkansas River. Constructed in just seven months in 1929, the bridge was designed by Chief Engineer George Cole to provide unparalleled views of the surrounding landscape. Visitors can walk across the bridge's 1,257 wooden planks for an unforgettable experience. The park offers more than just scenic views; it's an adventure destination with attractions like the Aerial Gondolas, providing 360-degree views of the gorge, and the Tommy Knocker Playland for children. Thrill-seekers can enjoy the Skycoaster, Zip Line, and Via Ferrata climbing experience. The park's history stretches back millions of years, with the Arkansas River carving the gorge from solid granite. The area was once home to dinosaurs, and later, Native American tribes such as the Ute, Comanche, Kiowa, Sioux, and Cheyenne utilized the gorge. In 2013, a wildfire caused significant damage, but the community rallied to restore the park, reopening it in 2015. Today, the Royal Gorge Bridge & Park continues to offer a unique blend of history, adventure, and natural splendor.
