Founded after the September 11, 2001 attacks, the CELL aims to educate and empower individuals to help prevent terrorism. The museum features interactive displays and multimedia presentations that explore the history of terrorism, the motivations behind violent extremism, and the impact of terrorism on global security. Visitors can examine various catalysts and belief systems that drive violent acts of terror, including those based on religious, nationalist, and political ideologies. Updated exhibits address current national and global security issues, encouraging visitors to consider the balance between protecting civil liberties and increasing security. A key focus is on how individuals can recognize and report suspicious activity in their communities. After undergoing a multimillion-dollar renovation, the CELL reopened in May 2024 with updated content and interactive video displays. The exhibit is designed for visitors aged 14 and older, offering a 60-minute journey through nearly 100 years of curated history. The CELL also offers group tours and community awareness programs.
