Discover more about Old Field Point Lighthouse

The Old Field Point Lighthouse, located in the Village of Old Field, has been a landmark on Long Island's North Shore since the early 19th century. The original lighthouse, constructed in 1823, was a 30-foot octagonal stone tower. In 1869, it was replaced by the current, larger lighthouse, built in the Victorian-Gothic Revival style. The lighthouse played a vital role in maritime navigation, warning ships of the rocky shoals and sandy reefs in the area. It was deactivated in 1933, replaced by an automated light, but later reactivated. The lighthouse was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2024. Today, the Old Field Point Lighthouse is owned by the Village of Old Field and serves as a constable's residence and town offices. The grounds are open to the public, offering stunning views of the Long Island Sound and the Connecticut coastline. Visitors can explore the area, take photographs, and appreciate the natural beauty of the surroundings. The first floor of the lighthouse functions as the Village Hall and is open for official business on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.
