If you're traveling by car, the Vanderbilt Museum and Planetarium is located at 180 Little Neck Rd, Centerport, NY 11721. From the Long Island Sound area, you can take the Long Island Expressway (I-495) to Exit 53 for Route 110 North. Follow Route 110 until you reach Route 25A East and take that towards Centerport. Continue on Route 25A for approximately 6 miles, and then turn left onto Little Neck Rd. The museum will be on your right. There is a parking lot available for visitors.

From there, you can catch a taxi or ride-sharing service like Uber or Lyft directly to the Vanderbilt Museum, which is about 4 miles away. Alternatively, you can take the Suffolk County Transit bus S40 from Huntington Station to Centerport, but check the schedule in advance as service may vary. The museum is a short walk from the bus stop.
