Cummings Park: Stamford's Coastal Retreat

Cummings Park, located on Shippan Avenue in Stamford, Connecticut, is a 79-acre park offering a variety of activities and stunning views of Long Island Sound. The park features a beautiful public beach perfect for sunbathing, swimming, and leisurely strolls along the shoreline. The soft sands and gentle waves make it an ideal spot for families with children. Beyond the beach, Cummings Park boasts lush green spaces and well-maintained walking paths that wind through the scenic landscapes. These areas are perfect for picnics, allowing visitors to relax and enjoy a meal amidst nature, surrounded by the soothing sounds of the sea. The park also offers various recreational activities, including beach volleyball and playgrounds. A fishing pier provides a spot to cast poles into the swells. Cummings Park is also equipped with six ball fields, two soccer fields, six tennis courts, and a basketball court, offering plenty of space for sports enthusiasts. Beach volleyball courts are also available. The park includes a boardwalk, a seasonal cafe, restroom facilities, and open lawn space. During the summer, food trucks visit the park. Originally known as Halloween Park, the park was renamed after Homer Stille Cummings, a former Stamford mayor and U.S. Attorney General under President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Cummings was instrumental in acquiring the land for the park, which he considered one of his best accomplishments.
