Bushnell Park Carousel: A Timeless Treasure

Step back in time on the Bushnell Park Carousel, a beautifully preserved antique that has delighted generations. Built in 1914 by the Artistic Carousel Manufacturing Company of Solomon Stein and Harry Goldstein, it is one of only three Stein & Goldstein carousels still operating in the United States. Originally located in Albany, New York, and later in an Ohio amusement park, the carousel found its permanent home in Hartford's Bushnell Park in 1974. The carousel features 48 hand-carved wooden horses, each with unique details, plus two decorative chariots. Thirty-six of the horses are 'jumpers,' moving up and down, while 12 are stationary. The horses are adorned with real horsehair tails and vibrant colors, reflecting the artistry of Stein and Goldstein. Adding to the nostalgic atmosphere is a 1921 Wurlitzer band organ, providing the soundtrack for a classic carousel experience.
