Originally located in Albany, New York, and later in an Ohio amusement park, the carousel found its permanent home in Hartford's Bushnell Park in 1974.The carousel features 48 hand-carved wooden horses, each with unique details, plus two decorative chariots. Thirty-six of the horses are 'jumpers,' moving up and down, while 12 are stationary. The horses are adorned with real horsehair tails and vibrant colors, reflecting the artistry of Stein and Goldstein. Adding to the nostalgic atmosphere is a 1921 Wurlitzer band organ, providing the soundtrack for a classic carousel experience.The carousel is housed in an enclosed, climate-controlled pavilion, allowing for year-round operation.
