From Avarua town center, head inland on Avatiu Road. Follow the road past the Pandanus Gas Station (behind Sea Salt Takeaway). Continue straight up the road, which becomes Uraua Drive, until the end. The trailhead sign and map mark the start of the Cross Island Trek.

Take the clockwise bus from anywhere on the island to Avarua. Alight at Cooks' Corner and walk inland along Avatiu Road. Follow the walking directions to the trailhead. A single bus fare is approximately $5 NZD.

Taxis are readily available throughout Rarotonga. A taxi from Avarua town to the Avatiu Road trailhead will cost approximately $15 - $20 NZD. Ensure the driver knows you want to go to the start of the Cross Island Trek.
