Nestled within the Arenal Volcano National Park, the Arenal Observatory Lodge & Trails offers unparalleled views of the Arenal Volcano and Lake Arenal. Originally a Smithsonian Institution research station in 1987, the lodge provides comfortable accommodations and access to a network of trails for exploring the surrounding rainforest.

Driving
From La Fortuna, drive towards Tabacón Hot Springs and Arenal Volcano National Park. Just before Lake Arenal, turn left at the marked turn-off for the National Park entrance. Continue 9 km (5.6 miles) on the gravel road, following signs for Arenal Observatory Lodge. The road ends at the lodge's entrance gate. Note that a 4x4 vehicle is recommended due to the road conditions. There are no tolls on this route. Parking is available at the lodge.

From La Fortuna, taxis are readily available to Arenal Observatory Lodge. The ride takes approximately 45 minutes, depending on road conditions. A typical fare is around $30 - $40 USD. Confirm the price with the driver before departure.
