Discover more about Tabacon Hot Springs

Tabacon Hot Springs is a world-renowned destination in La Fortuna, Costa Rica, celebrated for its unique blend of natural hot springs and luxurious amenities. The resort is situated on 900 acres of lush tropical reserve at the base of the Arenal Volcano, offering breathtaking views and a serene atmosphere. The hot springs are heated by the geothermal energy of the Arenal Volcano, with water temperatures ranging from 77°F to 122°F (25°C to 50°C). The mineral-rich waters flow through a series of cascading pools, waterfalls, and thermal rivers, creating a soothing and therapeutic environment. There are over 20 different thermal pools to explore, each offering a unique experience. Tabacon was founded in 1991 by Costa Rican architect Jaime Mikowski, who envisioned a wellness spa concept centered around a natural encounter. Mikowski transformed the marshlands into a network of thermal mineral springs, pools, and currents, reforesting the area with over 200 species of plants. The resort opened as a day destination in April 1993 and later expanded to include a hotel in 1997, marking the beginning of Arenal as an international destination. Visitors can indulge in a variety of experiences, including soaking in the thermal waters, enjoying spa treatments, dining at on-site restaurants, and exploring the surrounding rainforest. Tabacon offers day passes for those who wish to experience the hot springs without staying at the resort. The resort is also committed to sustainability and eco-friendly practices.
