Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving from San José, take Route 1 (Interamericana) towards Liberia. Continue for approximately 200 kilometers (about 2.5-3 hours). Exit onto Route 4 towards Bagaces. After 20 kilometers, you will reach Bagaces. From Bagaces, follow the signs to Llanos del Cortés. The entrance to Catarata Llanos del Cortés is located approximately 3 kilometers from the town center. Look for a sign indicating the waterfall, and turn right at the fork near the football field. Continue for 2.5 kilometers until you reach the parking area.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Catarata Llanos del Cortés by public transportation, take a bus from San José to Liberia. The bus leaves from the Terminal 7-10, and the journey takes approximately 4-5 hours. Once in Liberia, switch to a local bus heading towards Bagaces. This route takes about 30 minutes. Once you arrive in Bagaces, you can either take a taxi or walk to the waterfall, which is about 3 kilometers away. Ask locals for directions to Llanos del Cortés, and they will guide you to the entrance.

• Taxi or Rideshare

  If you prefer a more direct route from Bagaces, you can hire a taxi or use a rideshare app (if available in the area). Taxis are available at the bus station and can take you directly to Catarata Llanos del Cortés. The ride should take around 10-15 minutes and will cost approximately $10-$15 USD. Ensure you negotiate the fare beforehand or confirm with the driver before starting your journey.
