Discover more about Rio Negro Hot Springs

Rio Negro Hot Springs is a natural haven fed by the geothermal activity of the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano. The springs offer a tranquil escape where you can immerse yourself in the beauty of Costa Rica's vibrant ecosystem. The hot springs feature ten distinct thermal pools with temperatures ranging from 95°F to 113°F (35°C - 45°C). The pools are built into the edge of the Rio Negro river using concrete and rocks, blending into the natural environment. Visitors can access the pools on both sides of the river by crossing hanging bridges. In addition to the hot springs, visitors can indulge in a traditional volcanic mud bath. Mineral-rich volcanic clay is applied to the skin, left to dry, and then washed off in the cool Rio Negro river. The experience leaves the skin feeling soft and rejuvenated. For those seeking further exploration, a scenic trail leads to four waterfalls along the Rio Negro river. Each waterfall offers a unique charm and a refreshing pool for swimming. The surrounding area is also ideal for birdwatching and encountering local wildlife.
