Discover more about Osa WildLife Sanctuary

Nestled on the Osa Peninsula, often called the most biologically intense place on Earth, the Osa WildLife Sanctuary provides a safe haven for mistreated, injured, and orphaned animals native to the southern zone of Costa Rica. Established in 1996, the sanctuary evolved from an eco-lodge when its owner, Carol Patrick, began caring for injured animals, leading locals to bring more wildlife in need of assistance. The sanctuary works closely with Costa Rica's Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE) to rescue animals illegally held as pets. The staff creates specialized enclosures designed to mimic the animals' natural habitats, encouraging natural behaviors and preventing boredom. Animals at the sanctuary include monkeys, anteaters, exotic birds, sloths, and wild cats. Once rehabilitated, the animals are reintroduced into protected areas, including Corcovado National Park. Visitors can take guided tours to learn about the sanctuary's mission and meet some of its residents. These tours directly support the sanctuary through donations and tour fees, which cover the costs of food, staffing, veterinary care, and supplies. The Osa Wildlife Sanctuary is adjacent to the Piedras Blancas National Park.
