From San José, head to the main bus terminal called Terminal de Buses de San Carlos, located at Calle 14, between Avenidas 1 and 3. Look for the buses going to Cartago. Once you board the bus, the journey to Cartago takes about 30-45 minutes. Upon arrival at the Cartago bus terminal, you need to transfer to a local bus that goes towards the Irazu Volcano area. Look for the buses marked 'Irazu' or 'Oreamuno'. This will take you to the vicinity of the park entrance. The local bus ride will take approximately 30 minutes.

If you prefer a more direct route, you can take a taxi or use a rideshare service like Uber. Ask the driver to take you to Irazu Volcano National Park - Prusia Sector. The journey from San José to the park will take approximately 1.5 hours, depending on traffic. Make sure the driver knows you want to go to the Prusia sector, which is located 4 km north of Sanatorio Durán in Oreamuno, Cartago Province.
