Discover more about Nauyaca Waterfall Nature Park

Nauyaca Waterfall Nature Park, nestled in the heart of Costa Rica's San José Province, offers an unforgettable experience immersed in the country's natural beauty. The park's main attraction is the majestic Nauyaca Waterfalls, a pair of falls totaling 65 meters in height, cascading into a refreshing natural pool. The name 'Nauyaca' has several origin stories. One suggests it's derived from the Nahuatl word for the Fer-de-lance snake, a common sight in the area long ago. Another indigenous tale speaks of star-crossed lovers, Nau and Yaca, who tragically ended their lives at the falls. Visitors can swim in the large pool at the base of the lower falls, surrounded by lush jungle. For those seeking panoramic views, a trail leads to the upper waterfall. The park also features well-maintained hiking trails, a 'rancho' with hammocks and facilities, and opportunities to spot local wildlife such as toucans and sloths. Two companies provide access to the falls: Nauyaca Waterfalls (Don Lulo's) and Nauyaca Waterfall Nature Park. Each offers different experiences, from hiking and horseback riding to truck and trolley rides. The Nature Park provides access to the eastern side of the waterfalls.
